I have used a lot of tools and websites in my year in webmedia class. There’s blogging, video, Voice Thread, Pownce, podcasting, wiki sites, and a few other things. Teachers at my school could use one of those tools or websites to improve there classes. I recommend blogging there would be a lot of benefits.
Blogging is kind of like writing in a notebook, but instead it’s on the internet so people can read what what you blog. It is a great way to comunicate with other people, and it can be used for many reasons. My personal experiences with blogging have gone well. There are a number of bogging sites but for educational purposes I recommend Edublogs
One of the benefits is that teachers could put the homework assignments for the week on their blog so that if any students forgot if they had homework or what pages of homework they had, students could check their teacher’s blog. There wouldn’t be as many missing assignments and students would probably get better grades.
This is why teachers should start blogging, and use the technology we have as an advantage for learning!
« Voice Thread
While doing my science project for webmedia, I got to use Voice Thread. It is pretty cool and there are some things that I like, but there are also a few things that I don’t like. Here they are!
One thing that I really like is that it is very easy to upload photos. All you do is type in the pictures URL. Another thing that I like is that when you record, all you have to do is plug in the microphone and click on the record button. There aren’t any fancy setup procedures that you have to go through, or things like that.
There is only one thing that I don’t like about Voice Thread, and that is the instructions. I don’t think that the website is very clear on how to save your video. I believe that Voice Thread uses an autosave feature, but I didn’t see anything that says there is an autosave feature.
Other than that one reason, Voice Thread is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Recommendation »« Going Home
In my reading class we are reading this book called Going Home.
The book is about a young girl named Felita who goes to spend the summer with her uncle in Puerto Rico. Before she goes on her trip, Felita falls in love with a boy named Vinny. At Puerto Rico, Felita discovers that her uncles village is very boring. I don’t know what happens in the end because I have not read the whole book yet.
My opinion is that the book is a little boring and not very many exciting things. Other people may thing that Going Home is a very good book, but to me it’s boring, and not the type of book I would read for fun.
Voice Thread »« Other Cool Blogs
My teacher gave us a list of our clasmates blogs, and and assignment to put a comment on one of them. So I looked at the list and went to my friend Patrick’s Blog . He had a post about the game Assassns Creed. Their was a really cool video about the game so I posted a comment about it.
I also went on Blogger and found this really cool blog that had fractals the woman had made. I can’t exactly explain what fractals are so click here to look at the blog site!
Going Home »« Pownce
I forgot to do this assignment so I’m doing it now.
Pownce is pretty cool! There are a few things I like about it and a few things I don’t. There are more more things that I like than I don’t like.
One thing that I like is that it doesn’t have a 140 character limit. Unlike Twitter, you can actually type all that you want to say, so you don’t have to leave anything out!
Another thing that I like about Pownce is that you can send files, and add links. There is also a special button that you can click to make an announcement!
The only thing I do not like about Pownce is that if somebody types something and adds a lot of exclamation points, (not to mention any names) you have to scroll over quite a bit to log-out of your profile. Pownce should put the characters going down a bit more rather than having letters go across. Either that, or they need to make the boxes that you words are shown on the screen a tiny bit bigger.
Overall Pownce ROCKS!!!!!
Other Cool Blogs »« ANIMOTO
I have forgotten about my blog and haven’t done a post in a long time, so here I go! My teacher told us about this cool website called ANIMOTO . I made a little movie and it was actually easier than I thought. You just have to think of a theme and upload pictures onto your account. After that, all you have to do is wait while the website creates a little movie of you pics. No two little movies are alike! Oh yeah, you also get to choose background music. It is pretty awesome and everybody that reads this blog should try it out! The link should lead you yo the video I made.
Pownce »« Encyclopedia of Life
My class assignment is to write a blog post about a new webmedia application. I was listening to the radio on the way to school. They were talking about an online encyclopedia called the Encyclopedia of Life. The people on the radio also said that it was so popular on the first day that the site crashed because it had too many people on it at the same time. So a few minutes ago I went on the site to check it out.
It is soooooo cool!!!!! I’m telling you, any living organism you can think of is on there. You have got to check this thing out. You could use it for research projects about animals, or tons of other things. The best part is that its absolutely free! Here’s the address one more time: http://www.eol.org/index.
ANIMOTO »« The Inheritance Cycle Rocks!
The other day my 6th period teacher Mr. Woodring did a presentation on Internet safety. Our homework assignment was to write an essay on things we have done in the past that might have been unsafe, and how to prevent ourselves from doing them again. Here it is!
Internet safety is a very important issue, and after the presentation I was thinking about some things I have done that were not safe. One of them is giving out to much information about myself.
On some websites such as blogs you can make your profile. You would put in things like your birthday, your full name, your age, etc. I believe that in some cases I might have given out too much information about myself. It can be extremely hazardous, and people such as cyberbullies use that information to ”bully” you on the computer.
I think some ways to prevent myself from giving out too much information would be to simply not give any out at all! Of course you would have to give out some information when signing up for things like blogs or email, but other than that their is really no reason to give out information about yourself!
